Dara’s Salvaged Hearts

Salvaged Hearts was created based on the premise of taking things that had been thrown away, presumably because they weren’t beautiful… and creating something beautiful from them.

The whole concept was that whatever money I made from these items, I would donate 10% to different charities. The inspiration for Salvaged Hearts was an experience with teens in recovery. So many of them had been “thrown away”…

I made a collection of chairs created from American antique, 40+ year frames with fabrics left over from projects. Sometimes they’ll end up on projects. That’s what it is. Basically, something from nothing.

The chairs were an expression of the concept that “the whole is bigger than the sum of its parts”.

These pieces are one-of-a-kind. Just like the kids.

North of the Border Bliss

PROJECT SCOPE

This was a start-to-finish remodel project for a client in the Oro Valley country club. they fell in love with this Dove Mountain beauty.

We incorporated as many furniture pieces from the other home as we could.

The clients loved the colors already in the home. So we took our inspiration for the new fabrics and furnishings from the American clay walls. We believe the orginal owner was inspired by the Gallery country club.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Living room:
Our first selection was the Taylor King chairs in the fabulous fabric that pulled all the colors of the walls into the room. A Hancock & Moore sofa was a great anchor across from that wonderful fireplace. The rug is from Kravet and the tables are Western Heritage. In the foreground, a gameset.

Master bedroom:
Blue walls and drapes were existing. We were able to use her chairs and modify the bedding to match the draperies.

Master bathroom:
Custom balloon shaped fabric adds whimsy to a dropdead view.

Breakfast nook:
One of my favorite spaces in the home. The copper table and the lovely drapes are so inviting. Silverado placemats and turquoise napkin rings add the regional look we love in Tucson.

Hallway:
Fabric for drapes is in a woollen from England. The copper places are WPA collectibles. Chest is from Mexico and the chair was a garage sale find.

La Paloma Hacienda

PROJECT SCOPE

Our challenge was to furnish it with appropriate furniture to complement the grandeur of the Hacienda and the views, yet making it comfortable for the family.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Living room:
Beautiful draperies frame the spectacular view of the city and patio.
The Sofa and chairs are from Taylor King. The rustic bar table and chairs in the corner add a relaxed feel to the otherwise formal space.

Family room:
The western heritage table was custom-made for the cozy conversation area near the fireplace. The Hanckock and Moore swivel chair is perfect to converse with chef in the kitchen at the dining table across the room… or to enjoy TV.

Casual dining room:
Taracea carved dining room chairs coordinate with the table that the client had purchased in Mexico. A colorful valance adds an element of cheer.

Cabinet nook:
The cabinet was designed by the client’s daughter who also is the architect of the home. The cabinet was carved locally. Sunset Interiors added the bas-relief paint abvoe the cabinet, inside the arch, to complete the look.

Casita bedroom:
The rich fabric of the drapery enhances the wood of an heirloom bed.

Summerhaven Cabin Home

PROJECT SCOPE

I collaborated with the home owner (who happens to be a fabulous architect) in this “from the ground up” cabin project.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Kitchen:
The owner worked with Arizona Kitchen and Bath for the kitchen cabinetry.
We used many fabrics from the museum of New Mexico collections

Living room:
We worked with some existing furniture and heirloom Navajo rugs. The Sundance sofa in claret red leather shows of the fabulous tufting in this floating location.

Living room:
A pair of recliners fashioned in a meanswear plaid add the warmth of a Northwood feel. Draperies add warmth and elegance to an otherwise rustic cabin.

Living room:
The copper cocktail table just says Tucson.

Master bedroom:
We custom-designed the master bedroom furniture: everything was based on the Ralph Lauren fabric of the black and embroidered pillow on the bed.

Master bedroom:
The Hancock & Moore Austin tilt back overlooks the beautiful view and deck. Here again, draperies adorn the windows.

Grand-children room:
We installed the warm carpet to add warmth and coziness and a friendly effect to the bunk beds created by the architect for her grand-children.

Family room:
Foreign leather swivel chairs adorned with Zapotec pillows surround a stone-top table over Navajo rugs.

Family room:
The western heritage pub table and chairs were a perfect fit for the rustic billiard room.

Dove Mountain Hidden Gem

PROJECT SCOPE

We called this home the “Dove Mountain Gem”. It was passed over many times by home buyers who could not see past the pink fabrics and the brass railings.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Living room:
In the living room, we reclad the fireplace in stone, changed all the window coverings and built a custom area rug. One of the photos show a detail of this custom area rug.
We also custom-painted the ottomans and did a custom cocktail table in mesquite.

Kitchen:
Over the stone we faux-painted the existing wood hood to look like copper and this turned out great.

Formal dining room:
The custom mesquite dining table with turquoise inlays is set over a custom area rug. the turquoise inlays became a foundational color for the color scheme of the area. The windows have been adorned with custom coverings.

Casual dining area:
This dining area is decorated with a copper table, highlighted with lather draperies on the windows. These leather draperies were handmade, directly on site.

Foyer:
Note the presence of a key throw table in the foyer: it was built with a piece of reclaimed wood from Brazil and an old wagon wheel.

Hummingbird Custom Project

Dara and Carly collaborated to create the perfect tile for the existing fountain.

The hummingbird tile often attracts real hummingbirds.

Jason Scott’s German chest and Carly Quinn’s tile work dyptic create a ‘mi case e su casa’ feel.
